The
Criminal Investigations Division (CID)
is responsible for the followup investigation of crimes occurring
within the city limits of Clearwater, the analysis of crime
trends, and the provision of support and assistance to crime
victims. Forty-five (45) detectives and supervisors and 13
civilian employees are assigned to 7 investigative categories. All Clearwater Police detectives start their law enforcement careers as uniformed patrol officers and are assigned to CID based upon their knowledge, experience, and investigative ability. Detectives are responsible for locating and interviewing victims and witnesses; locating identifying and preserving physical evidence; recovering stolen property; indentifying, locating, interviewing and arresting criminal suspects; and presenting criminal cases to the State Attorney for prosecution. Specially trained civilian staff conduct crime analysis, investigative support duties, and victim assistance. Investigative Categories
