The Clearwater Police Department hosts Citizen Police Academy classes several times a year. The program is designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the Clearwater Police Department and the criminal justice system. The program consists of a series of nine classes and discussions held once a week, on a designated evening typically from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. There is no cost to anyone who enrolls.

The classes will provide an in-depth view into various areas of law enforcement. It is an educational and informative program that allows citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that effect law enforcement efforts in the City of Clearwater, and how to develop a partnership with the police department. It is our goal that upon completion of the course, participants will enjoy a better understanding of what the police do and why, and experience improved communication and partnership between themselves and the police department.

Upon completion of the course, graduates receive a diploma, academy cap, and a class photo. In addition, graduates will be encouraged to join the Clearwater Police Volunteer Corps. Being a volunteer provides an opportunity for continued education in the field of law enforcement and other related areas and allow a more interactive association with the police department.

Each class consists of nine evening sessions. There is limited space and registration is required. Please email or call Officer Carol Schmidt at 562-4167 for information about the next class.
